As someone who does not follow Apple technology very closely, it was interesting to take a look into that world and see what kind of things they discussed and looked forward to. I explored a few articles that discussed rumors relating to the newest iPhone. There was speculation on everything -- a bigger screen, NFC capabilities, different plug-in ports, 4G LTE capabilities, better processor, better camera in the phone. There was even speculation on whether or not the release date would be delayed or whether it would be on September 21. 2012 as most people seemed to agree upon. Perhaps the one that surprised me the most was how people debated over what the new iPhone would be called. Many people seemed to think that after the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5 would be the logical name progression. However, some had their doubts, predicting that it would simply be called "The New iPhone."
The unveiling came and the new phone was indeed called "iPhone 5." Many other rumors were confirmed as true such as a better camera, bigger screen (now four inches), redesigned ports, 4G LTE, better equipment. It seemed that most of the most talked about rumors turned out to be correct while others were disappointed with their little hopes of NFC capabilities crushed. There were minor improvements included in the new iPhone that I did not read any rumors about such as better speakers, operating system, and multiple mics installed.
Has the iPhone 5 risen to the hype? Some say they are disappointed, stating that not enough has changed for it to be worth the upgrade while others really enjoy their newest gadget. I suppose the sales will show us the final verdict.
